Best of British - News from the UK Wrestling Scene
Future Pro Wrestling were in Wallington, Surrey on the 11th for their ‘Reloaded’ event. Here are the results:
Terry Striker (formerly known as Kid Pride) defeated Snare and Rob Cage in a three-way match. Cage suffered a neck injury and had to be carried out on a stretcher.
Bagheera defeated The Warden
The Bhangra Nights defeated The LDRS
Exodus and Da Big J Dizzle defeated Mark Haskins and Greg Burridge. Post-match, Exodus attacked his partner Dizzle.
Jimmy Havoc defeated Joel Masters
A full review of the show can be found here. Sounds like it was a great evening.
That same night, ATTACK! Pro Wrestling were in Cardiff for a charity show. All the proceeds from the evening went to local Welsh charity Recovery Cymru.
Mike Hitchman defeated Flash Morgan
Kev Dunphy and Adam Day defeated Tiger Kid and Delta Rush Jr
“The Pride of Wales” Eddie Dennis defeated “Flyin’” Mike Bird
Damian Dunne defeated Jeff Cornell
“White Lightning” Mark Andrews defeated Pete Dunne
Thoughts: The only people on the card with whom I’m familiar are the Dunne Brothers, but from what I’ve heard the show was excellent. Hopefully they raised plenty of money.
Phoenix Pro Wrestling (PPW) are having 3 huge nights of shows this weekend in the West Midlands. The weekender included a PPW Championship match, the start of the 2012 Evolution League, as well as the debut of Mad Man Manson’s “Manson Rules” series (check out this promo from Manson for more information). The weekender kicks off tonight with “Brothers at Arms” at West Bromwich Labour Club. Here’s the card:
PPW Championship: El Ligero (c) vs Bubblegum
Manson Rules Series: Mad Man Manson vs Lord Graham Thomas III
Danny Chase vs British Born Steele
Nate Colt vs Steve Valentino
Three-Way-Dance: Zero Tolerance vs Matt Hall vs Barricade
Best of 3 series: Sean Morell vs Jack Walker
The following night sees PPW going to Albany Social Club in Birmingham for an event called “Textbook Challenge”:
“Textbook Challenge” to determine the number 1 contender for the PPW Championship: “Textbook” Dave Breaks vs Jonny Storm
Manson Rules Series: Mad Man Manson vs Steve Valentino
British Born Steele and El Ligero vs The Myatt Legacy
Zero Tolerance vs Lucas Black
Evolution League 2012: Matt Hall vs Barricade
Best of 3 series: Sean Morell vs Jack Walker
Finally, Sunday sees them taking over the St Mary’s Social Club in Cannock for “Ligero Storm III - Ironman”. No prizes for guessing what the main event is.
30 Minute Iron Man Match: El Ligero vs Jonny Storm
Manson Rules Series: Mad Man Manson vs Brian Wright
Matt Pedin vs Lord Graham Thomas III
Joey Starr vs Paul Malen
Zero Tolerance and Matt Hall vs Steve Valentino and Barricade
Best of 3 Series: Sean Morell vs Jack Walker
Thoughts: What a weekend of action from PPW. All three El Ligero matches look amazing, particularly the Iron Man against Jonny Storm. The Manson Series sounds like fun, and the Best of 3 series between Morell and Walker is a huge opportunity for the two teenagers to show everyone what they can do. I expect this weekender to be a huge success.
The World Association of Wrestling (WAW) are in North Walsham, Norfolk this Sunday (the 19th). Here’s the card so far:
Danny Boy Collins vs Aron Frost
Liberty vs Penelope
Ricky Knight vs Brad Slayer
Sam Knee vs TJ Daniels vs Scott Fusion vs Milky O’Hagan
Southside Wrestling are in Nottingham on the 24th for “4Everlution”. This is Southside’s biggest show ever, with a stacked card including several internationally-renowned stars. Here’s the lineup:
Finlay vs Martin Kirby
Number 1 Contender’s Match: Doug Williams vs Stixx vs Joel Redman vs Rampage Brown
AR Fox vs Rockstar Spud
Sami Callihan vs Dave Mastiff
Speed King Qualifying Match: Robbie X vs Max Angelus vs Nick Riley
The Predators vs The Myatt Legacy
Thoughts: I wish I had the money to go to Nottingham on the 24th. Finlay alone is enough to have me sold, but to bring Williams, Callihan and Fox over too is just torture for me and my alcohol-ridden student loan. This should be nothing short of spectacular.
Preston City Wrestling are at Lava Ignite in, er, Preston on the 24th for “Blood, Sweat and Beers”. Here’s the card:
PCW Championship: T-Bone (c) vs Johnny Moss vs Mark Haskins
I Quit Match (Travis’s MITB on the line): Kris Travis vs Lionheart
No DQ Match: Valkabious vs Shaun “The Hammer” Davis
Number 1 Contender’s Match: Greg Burridge vs Bubblegum
Cruiserweight 4-Way: Zack Sabre Jr vs Joey Hayes vs Noam Dar vs Dean Allmark
Ruffneck’s Ale House (Drinking contest): ‘Ruffneck’ Keith Colwill vs The Blackpool Blondes
Dave Rayne and Terry Frazier vs Disco Madness (Sam Bailey and Mad Man Manson)
Thoughts: Why are all the best shows on on the same nights as each other? This should be awesome, particularly the Cruiserweight 4-way, which features four of my absolute favourites on the UK scene.
The North East Wrestling Society are at Peterlee Leisure Centre on the 24th for their thirteenth show, aptly titled “Unlucky For Some”. Three matches have been confirmed so far:
NEWS British Championship: El Ligero (c) vs Colossus Kennedy
Micky Long vs Max Heat
Iain Robinson vs AJ Anderson
LDN are also around this weekend as always. Tonight (the 17th) sees them make the trip up to North Wales for a show at the Venue Cymru in Llandudno. LDN British Heavyweight Champion Travis defends his title (it doesn’t say who against) in the main event, Blackbelt Tom Dawkins takes on Kid Dynamite and The Dark Lord goes one-on-one with Jason Sensation, while Bam Bam Barton goes up against Blondie Barrett.
Then on the 23rd, LDN are at Thurrock Civic Hall in Grays, Essex, where the main event will be Finlay vs ‘Superstar’ Mal Sanders. Finlay will also be taking a training seminar before the event. When I reported this a few weeks ago tickets were fast selling out, so I doubt there are any left now.
